Design brief (challenge that the elderly faced)

                                         Description: Toothbrush holder


Challenge: Put the toohtbrush back into the cabinet .

Design brief: Design and make a toothbrush holder which can be sticked to the wall above the sink to enable the elderly to reach for the toothbrush easily.

Specification: The product must be able to allow the elderly to take and put back their toothbrush easily.

Description: It has a cute face and a smile on its face which can brighten up the elderly's day. Most importantly, it is able to hold toothbrush which can be placed on the sink.

Description: It resembles like a comb but the sticks is a little flexible so the toothbrush and the toothpaste is able to rest against the sticks.

Description: It does not rust easily since it is stainless steel. It also has a cover which is able to open and close the toothbrush holder easily so that the toothbrush or toothpaste inside it will not get dirty easily.

Description : It has two holes it and is able to stand firmly to the ground. The person using this product is able to lift the toothbrush holder with the toothbrush in it and brush his/her teeth while holding on to the toothbrush holder. After use, the person is able to put the toothbrush to its original position without having to take the initiative to take the toothbrush out and put it back into the toothbrush holder.

 What can you do to improve the situation?

I could probably make a toothbrush holder that can be sticked to the wall located right above the sink. (The sticky part can be easily removed from the wall). The toothbrush holder can also have different designs imprinted on it so that the toothbrush holder does not look too plain.

Scenario: Elderly brushing her teeth                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                                

Step(s):

(1): Use your legs and walk towards the bathroom.
 (2): Before entering the bathroom, turn on the lights.
(3): Also before entering the bathroom, wear the slippers which is located at the doorstep of the bathroom so that you will not slip and fall if the floor of the bathroom is slightly wet.
(4): Use your legs and walk towards where the sink is located at.
(5): Use your hands and take your toothbrush, cup use to rinse your mouth and toothpaste from the cabinet located just above the sink.
 (6): Turn on the tap.
(7): Wash your toothbrush from the water coming out from the tap.
(8): Hold on to your toothbrush after washing finish your toothbrush.
(9) : Fill the cup full of water from the water coming out from the tap.
(10): Turn off the tap.
(11): Put the cup on the sink so that you are able to take it easily to rinse your mouth.
(12) : Put toothpaste on your toothbrush.
(13): Put the toothpaste back into the cabinet after using finishing the toothpaste.
(14) : Use your hands and put the toothbrush into your mouth.
(15) : Use your hands to move the toothbrush around your mouth.
(16) : Move it around your teeth till you get some soap formed from the toothpaste and a little bubbles.
 (17) : Take out the toothbrush from your mouth after brushing finish your teeth.
(18): Hold the toothbrush in your hand.
(19): After which you will use bend your back a little bit so that you are able to take the cup filled with water. br />
(20): Rinse your mouth with the water from the cup.
(21): Spit out the water into the sink.
(22): Put the cup on the sink.
(23): Turn on the tap.
(24): Wash the toothbrush from the water coming out from the tap such that there will no longer be any toothpaste on the toothbrush anymore.
(25): Turn off the tap.
(26): Put the toothbrush back into the cabinet. (CHALLENGE)
(27): Turn on the tap again.
(28): Wash the cup from the water coming out from the tap.
(29): Turn off the tap.
(30): Put the cup back into the cabinet.
(31):Turn on the tap.
( 32): Wash your face from the water coming out from the tap so that your face will be cleaner while bending your back a little.
(33): After doing so, turn off the tap.
(34): Use your leg and walk towards the towel where it is located just beside the sink.
(35): Wipe your face with the towel, allowing it to dry your face.
(36): Use your legs and walk out of the bathroom.
(37): Turn off the lights before leaving the bathroom.
